When the universe has it's way with you - UPDATEDAnd why your "I" isn't the best thing to
have around during sex
This isn't one of the tool group entries, it's an
expanded explanation to visitor NonEntity using the sexual metaphor that I
dropped in Systematically.
Hey ho NonE! Welcome to my Paganized corner of the internet. I'm not sure we do agree entirely. When I wrote this entry, I almost went for the sexual metaphor. I've been wondering in the last few days if I should have. Let me see if I can explain. I'm a little kinky in some of my tastes. One of the things that gets my motor running is Dominance/submission, also called power exchange. I've never been into cruelty "just because," but when I have found someone willing to play, I take great pride in seeing just how far I can push them beyond their borders using sensation. Not necessarily pain or humiliation, although those can have their place. And not even usually penetration. "Setting the nerves afire," I call it. That's the relationship that I was going to use, only without me in the "top spot." When I "open myself up to the experience," I'm not talking about the universe in general, but the universe through my Deities. It you wanted to get psychological, we could talk about higher and lower selves, realized archetypes, and godmasks. If you wanted to get anthropological, we could talk about the role that gods can take, and if gods are the manifested desires and ideals of a society and/or individuals. There's probably a ton of stuff about displaced sexuality there as well. It doesn't help that most modern Neopaganism is based on fertility cults, and that some of the rites are either sexual or symbols of sex. This is actually pretty minor. In Vodoun, the Loa really can get sexual and being "god ridden" takes on a completely different meaning. The point is that the "I" part of you, the ego, gets sent out for snacks while the universe has it's way with the rest of you. The ego doesn't really know what's happening until it gets back and finds the tangle of sheets in the bedroom. And all the cushions scattered in the living room. And your naked body in the front yard. Not something your ego would have chosen, but the rest of you is pretty happy how things turned out. The ego is the part of you that can distract you from feeling your connection to the Divine, you see. The ego is the part of you that needs the maps. On second thought, I am going to make this a regular entry. UPDATE - On the suggestion of regular reader and critic-at-large Juliaki, I changed one sentence to clarify things. I also added some other explanatory notes.
