What's in a word?

Mixed meanings can give mixed understandings

The word mystery has several meanings.

It could mean a Raymond Chandler novel or a story from the latest issue of Ellery Queen.

In an anthropological sense, it could mean the hidden rites and practices of a given group, hence men's mysteries or women's mysteries or even priest mysteries.

Or it could mean a truth that surpasses human understanding.

Dictionary.com has a few others.

No one definition is going to be universal.

Applying the meaning of one in the context of the other will frustrate.
