Greenwood BeltaineThere's a light in the forest
When
the moonbeams filter down
There's a mirror in the greenwood
When the
dew is on the ground
Every branch and every blossom
Every root and
every leaf
Drink the tears of the Goddess in the
morning.
Well, the sun was her lover When the twilight came around. He said, "Lady, I'll protect you 'Til the world stops turning round." And she danced in his brilliance While the forest people slept, And she whispered in his ear the word, "Remember." And the owls sang her song And the crickets sang along, And the people were soothed in their sleep. Where her feet touched the earth Midnight orchids sprang from nothing, And the forest grew thick with her dreams. New Forest By Gwen Knighton I took a couple of days off and went to the Kaibab for
some retreat and renewal.
Not much bellybutton contemplating this trip, although I did do some Beltaine things to focus myself. With the insomnia, I am having a real hard time with focus and I have cut back on magick, although I am still using a few rites and rituals at the appropriate times. The biggest physical differences are a slight sunburn and shorter, non-frizzy hair. This was my First Annual Hair of the Bear Cut, I took a handspan (about six inches) off. That got rid of the split ends and made my hair cooler. It makes my trademark bear tail a little tough though, there is barely enough for my stubby fingers to make a loop. The biggest thing was watching squirrels. Those little guys are a lot of fun to watch, although they scold you for not feeding them enough. I didn't see any deer or elk this trip, although there were some tracks that weren't too old. I didn't really keep vigil in front of the fire, although I did manage to keep it going. I did do some tramping, not really hiking as such but just moving through the forest. It's my almost my favorite part of Arizona, listening to the pines sing and the aspen whisper does wonders for my mood and outlook. Maybe it is just the change from my desert. Maybe it is just me leaving things behind. But there is a magick there, something that I cherish. A touch that reaches beyond the walls I usually keep up.
