Simple pleasuresOpening yourself
There are all sorts of little extras that come
from really paying attention to the world around you. It takes effort to get
past the disconnect that a modern life can inflict on you, but it is worth
it.
Knowing when the moon is Full, Dark, Waning, or Waxing. Besides the magickal and ritual timings, that has helped me win the occasional bet. Noticing that the state's largest newspaper has the solstice time wrong by about seven hours without actually having to check first. Noticing that the bats are back this year, but not in as large numbers as they were a few years ago. On the other hand, there are more of rabbits and quite a few owls. Knowing the spots where the city noises go away and the stars shine down brightly. The good feel of soil under your fingernails. Discovering that a decorative cedar in your yard has become the high rise condo for about six or eight species of small birds. I really need to get a bird book or two, but the birds are too much fun to watch. Sipping tea and watching the sun rise. Feeling the sun beat down on your shoulders and hearing the song that goes with the beat. Finding and respecting the animal trails.
