FireEvery home should have a
fireplace
I spent much of the weekend curled up in the
living room in front of the
fireplace.
This wasn't a vigil or even a ritual. Just me basking in the warmth and watching the flames. There is something very primal about a fire. There are three of the classic four elements there. With the lights turned off in the rest of the house, the dancing lights pull at the deepest experience. Wasn't quite me grunting "fire good" but it was close. Just sort of letting myself go, letting the firelight play in the backside of my mind, flickering at the edge of my spirit. It's one of the real blessings of an experienced faith. You can find the shape of the Divine in the everyday. You don't need a church to keep you safe from religion, or a priest to open your eyes to what is happening, or a book to detail the rites. It's just there. The magick now is that the magick is always there, flowing through everything. No silver star. No consecrated chalice. No blessed blade. No sacred space. We forget sometimes that these are props for us so we can get around our limitations. The magick doesn't need that to manifest, and the Divine isn't restricted to our rules. The winter solstice is my favorite time of year. I was winter-born. So the fire and the season touch my roots. Even now I still have the flame going. Good thing too, it's cold out there today.
