The NeoDen gets a new workroomConstruction starts next
week
The last few days have been busy and have sparked
some creativity.
When I bought my house, I spent more time on the road than at the house. In my Corporate Clone days, one of my hats was in Human Resources and I spent time traveling. I never really got a chance to "move in" per se. I did do some things, I walled off about two thirds of the garage and turned it into a library. I got a few bookshelves and a kitchen table. I fixed the backyard so people wouldn't peek. I built up a ritual area. And when my stepdad first started getting sick, I converted the front bathroom to handicapped accessible just in case. Even my TV is on wheels and goes between my office, my living room, and my bedroom. Well, I've acquired some used furniture that I don't have room for, so I've decided that it is long past time for me to put together a decent work room. A place where I don't have to clear my projects so I have a spot to prepare food or eat. A place where I don't have to move my computer keyboard so I can balance my checkbook. A place where I can put a drafting table and not have to fold it up when I have company over. My current office will become the TV room, the TV will live there when it is not wheeled somewhere else. My recliner will go there. More importantly, more space in the library so I can get books out of the living room. Not to mention a place for most of my bears. I REALLY groove on bears and I have several nice statues, some of which I have used as altar pieces. They start the drywall and electrical next week. The door should arrive tomorrow. Tile and basic paint follow. I am trying to put a painting party together to go beyond the basic. This room will be a restful retreat in addition to being a work area. After a lot of talk with some friends who know color, I've added a solar tube to the ceiling. My plan at this point is to do a faux finish on the wall, dove gray undercoat with blue and shiny copper flecks in the finish. I can hear you ask, shiny copper? Well, yes. All the metal furniture will be Dutch blue with copper accents. One of the pieces I just got is a large 1960's vintage executive desk. I will repaint the hardware copper. The surface of the desk already has a Plexiglas top, I will put some embossed copper wrapping paper under the Plexiglas. And above the new outside door, I have this really interesting semi-sculpture of an eagle in flight done entirely in copper. Copper works for a technopagan you see. Especially for an Arizona technopagan. It won't ALL be in copper. I have a wrought iron Victorian cane stand for my walking sticks and staffs, that will stay black. But the idea is that the all that copper will catch the sunlight in different ways as the sun moves though the sky and shines through the solar tube. Short of building a house from scratch, this is going to be the most soothing and productive area I can make. Appropriately blessed, of course. I am still trying to come up with an unobtrusive mark for North on those occasions when I move the altar in there.
