Spaces

Neo draws back the curtain (literally) on his favorite room in the house

I took advantage of the cooler weather this morning and weeded my veggie patches and outdoor ritual space. And yes, a few flower beds too.

So after a quick lunch (a little meatloaf, a little cheese, some pineapple tidbits and coconut stirred into some plain yogurt), I've adjourned to my sanctum to impart the Wisdom of the Ages to you, gentle reader.

And unfortunately I have no idea what I am going to write about.

I could tell you about the time I tried to be vegetarian a few years back. I had some of the strangest dreams, things that always ended with bright red blood flowing and a near sexual excitement. That bit came up in an email exchange recently, someone was surprised that I was a Pagan and still ate meat.

I could tell you about my experiments with natural body makeup, but I am really not that talented as an artist so the stuff doesn't look all that good outside of ritual. Of course it doesn't have to I suppose. In ritual, my focus is elsewhere. One brief note: my chest isn't very hairy at all except for a few wild hairs, it actually works better if I keep it shaved clean. It doesn't seem to matter with my face or arms and legs, all of which have far more hair.

I could tell you what I am going to do for the Dark Moon coming up in a few days.

Instead I think I will tell you about my sanctum. It's the one room in my house that I don't let anyone in.

The walls have a basecoat of light almost sky blue, then there is a wash of dark blue over that and streaks of copper from side to side. The changing light through the solar tube makes it very striking.

Right now I am sitting at my desk, an old sixties style executive that got from the folks, it used to belong to my stepfather. It has a dark brown stain that is definitely showing signs of wear. I rub it down with Murphy's oil soap every once in a while. There's a pull out writing thing on either side. The top is covered with a piece of lucite with the remains of a stamp collage under it (the stamps and the glue were under the previous piece of lucite for more than 30 years, it didn't all survive). There's a piece of copper embossed wrapping paper on top of that. The fixtures had seen better days, what was a standard fixture back in the day is a custom order now at $75 a pop, more if you want a custom design. So I cheated.

I had an old pine hutch that has seen better days, but it has a ten drawers and two doors. So I put the hutch on the desk and stole the twelve knobs to replace the six drawer pulls on the desk. The pine knobs tie the desk in somewhat with the hutch. I replaced the hutch knobs with hematite-colored ones from my local True Value. That also makes twelve mini-mirrors that I look into.

MaKai, the iMac I am typing this into, weighs about forty pounds. About the same as Domo, my Rev B iMac, but he has a much bigger screen and much more capacity. He lives on a corner of the desk on a lucite riser to put his screen more at my eye level. The riser also holds my iPod docks and my Palm dock, and a USB hub and a Firewire hub. Extra hard drives and other gadgets are back behind the riser next to the hutch. To my immediate left is my keyboard stand and my music stand.

The room also holds two full size file cabinets, an altar table, a drawing table, and an old workbench with shelves.

It's my technopagan sanctum, and it is a tight fit for one.
