Monday morning with teaJust some musings here and
there
Last year my high desert had a very mild autumn
and a warm winter. So far this year it's repeating. Maybe even warmer this
year.
One difference this year is that the "birdsong wall" is already in it's fourth week. Usually it lasts about two or three weeks tops. I'm wondering if the birds know something I don't. It's a high price to pay, but the wildfires in six states have been responsible for some spectacular sunrises and sunsets here. One side effect has been my sinuses are in open revolt. With the warm fall I've not heard or seen any coyotes yet. Or at least not over the local dogs. When the desert does it's winter sleep, it's not unusual for coyotes to forage at certain places in town. There is a little bit of fall foliage here and there, but not much. Around back and across the street there's a forty foot evergreen (scrub cedar?) that has a splash of red from a vine entwined in it's branches. Striking from a distance. The ravens have been out in force though. Usually it's one to a lamppost, and not every lamppost. The other day at the post office, it was two and three to a lamppost. Same with the parking lot outside of True Value. Just seems a little odd. No geese yet. Come to think of it, it's been a few months since I've seen any rabbits. With the haze in the air, the stars haven't been as clear. The last full moon was gorgeous though.
