It's snowing again this morning

Writing with tea and toast

We had rain two days ago, and we have a really wet snow right now this morning.

The flakes are big and hard, almost like hail.

Now I know my western desert hasn't been buried in snow like the East Coast. But we've been getting more than usual, and our ambient humidity has been much higher. I've been feeling the cold in my joints, even though I'm pretty sure the average temperature is higher this year. And those fog/snow combinations are Holy Moments.

It's good to see the humidity though. Maybe between this year and the last two years, the Western U.S. will be pulling out of the drought that we've had for the last decade or so. Mother Nature takes care of herself.

And that's the point I want to make.

Nature ALWAYS wins in the end.

Humanity could disappear today. Most of the other life on the planet would never notice.

We could sterilize our cities with nuclear fire and poison the seas with biochemical weapons. Life would still go on.

Look at the geology and see some of the toxic sludge that used to cover the planet. Life still grew.

Our species is not the center of the universe. We're not even the center of the planet. We are not uniquely poised to save or damn the Earth with our very next step.

We're not that important.

Now to us, yes, we are important. We've accomplished so much, the wheel, cities, music, porn that can be downloaded from the internet, and a really great cup of coffee. But we're just a blink in the life of the planet. I'd go further and say that humanity isn't even adult until we've learned to live off the planet. But that's me.

No matter what we do or don't do, life continues.

Nature always wins in the end.
