Wind in the leaves"I speak for the trees, for the trees have no
tongues."
—The Lorax, Dr. Suess 'Tis that time of year again. Actually a little
before it.
In all the hype about environmental protests and Earth Day and global warming (don't get me started here), I believe that Pagans as a group loose sight of the simple solutions. To me, one of the holiest acts that I can do is plant a tree. Every year at the end of April, I carefully select a tree and a secluded spot. It becomes part of my sabbat celebration. Trees have been good to me. I learned to climb in an old tree stump behind my maternal grandparents house in Glendale. The family used to run away from the Phoenix summer heat to Jacob Lake for a day or so. I had my first face to face (six inches away) encounter with a squirrel behind my paternal grandfather's house in Conway. My favorite study spot during college was sitting between three trees. Trees bridge Earth and Sky in a way humans have never quite managed, despite all our accomplishments. So yes, you could say I am into trees. The Worldtree is a symbol of my path and central to my beliefs. By happy coincidence, National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April. State Arbor Days vary. New Mexico was March 13th this year. Arizona was March 20th. Colorado is April 16. And Utah is April 30th. Plant a tree this year.

Pagan philosopher, libertarian, and part-time trouble maker, NeoWayland looks at keeping truths alive despite a wash of nonsense. But don't be surprised when he's doing the "nekkid Pagan guy" thing.
