How to be Pagan for a dayAn absolutely serious and scholarly
discussion on the details of Pagan belief
It's going to be a little short today, I still
have plenty of things to do before sunset. Like my semi-annual Hair of the Bear
thing.
It's the difference between doing and writing about it. Even though I am a solitary, I do keep the day in my own way. So rather than waste your time and mine with a long ramble while my mind and spirit are elsewhere, I'm just going to tell you the very, very first Pagan joke I ever heard. "What's
the best thing about Pagan
friends?"
"They worship the ground you walk on." Yes I know it's an oldie, and yes I know it's probably in 99,723 Pagan humor pages, but that is not the point. It was my first Pagan joke, and you never forget your first. Most Christian humor I had heard up to that point always sounded a little nervous as if someone was they would get smited by lightning. We have to laugh at ourselves. No one else would take us seriously enough. Yes, that was another joke. If you are not laughing today and embracing life, something is wrong with you. That's not the only first I'll be remembering. It is a fertility fest after all. (humming Black Velvet Band under my breath). You don't have to be Pagan, but it really helps sometimes. Go tell three really dirty jokes. Share a piece of fruit with someone you can't stand. Cuddle with someone you care deeply about. Leave the place a little nicer than when you found it. And greet the sun when it wakes up. No, that isn't all that there is to be a Pagan, it's just a taste of how to be a better human. I don't care about you being Pagan. But I do want you to be the best human you can. Happy Beltaine.

Pagan philosopher, libertarian, and part-time trouble maker, NeoWayland looks at keeping truths alive despite a wash of nonsense. But don't be surprised when he's doing the "nekkid Pagan guy" thing.
