Occasionally I wandered in where I was not wanted and gave truthful answers.
Sometimes I even did it deliberately. A little disruption now can prevent disaster later.

I got into a disagreement this week over if the solstices and equinoxes have anything to do with the seasons. I still don't know if the other person understands that the same orbital mechanics and axial tilt that gives the seasons is also responsible for the solstice and equinoxes.

I don't suppose it's really important in the overall scheme of things, but I find it unnerving. Paganism is supposed to be an awareness of the connections around you. But at least two people seemed to think that the connections were just this arbitrary map pulled off a cereal box or out of an old style RPG book. Maybe I was misinterpreting what I saw.

That paganism seemed to be disconnected from the world.

I've been seeing a lot of that online. It's like if one pattern doesn't fit or doesn't fill the bounds of political correctness, well, that just means we need a new pattern.

It's the second sin of monotheism, dressed up in pagan garb. Gods, have we really gone that far?

One of the first lessons I learned from the writings of Valiente was to pay attention to your surroundings. No matter what the books said the powers of the prevailing winds were, you should learn what each wind direction meant around your home. That was how you started building correspondences. That was how you learned which element lived in which direction.

That's what made Mike Nichol's work so exciting. It wasn't just about the sabbats. It was about how an underlying cannon of myth tied into the wheel of the year.

This awareness, these connections, it was what made paganism and not just some hyped up ceremonial magick. The connections shaped pagans as much as pagans tried to shape the World around them. These connections gave wisdom, this connections gave balance.

Have we lost those in a prefabricated world wide web?
