Mask of the demons

Most of our "spiritual" troubles are human caused

This is one of those articles that annoys me to no end. Not because of the accusations against "cults, satanic masses, and witchcraft," but because the manipulation it describes.

Leaving aside examples of benevolent possession and "influence," including more than a few Christian ones, possession and oppression and influence aren't always what they appear to be. These people are creating their own hell and plopping themselves in the middle of it.

Here's the not very romantic truth. Most spiritual attacks are created on This Side by humans, not by spiritual entities.

Yes, it could happen. But the human world isn't their native space, and it's too much trouble to penetrate the protections that most humans wrap themselves in. Believe me when I tell you that there is a better chance of a black bear setting up a hunting range in downtown Chicago than evil spirits attacking humans in urban America.

There is a big, big exception to the rule. It's not that hard to create what classical magicians call lower elementals. Once created, if it's a part of your belief structure AND actively supported by the faith of your church, of course it's going to get through the defenses. That's what it was created to do.

Why do you think that archetypes are so bloody powerful? We reinforce them. A wise magick maker dismantles such spirit forms when he's finished and well before they change enough to exist independently.

And then there are those who use them to keep the flock in line. Power over instead of power with, strengthened with the passionate fear of the believers, invoked often and publicly. The congregation is in bondage, only their oppressor isn't who they think it is.
