Occasionally I wandered in where I was not wanted and gave truthful answers.
Sometimes I even did it deliberately. A little disruption now can prevent disaster later.

NeoNotes — Judaism

Pardon, but Judaism wasn't the original monotheism. Akhenaton introduced Atenism in Egypt, which may have influenced the development of Semitic polytheism into monotheistic Judaism.

Well, technically if Atenism influenced Judaism…

But if you want to talk recognized influence, yes, Judaism wins hands down. Not just because of Christianity, but because of the scholarship of the Jewish people. Despite their relatively small numbers, they've had an outsized contribution to the sciences and arts and commerce.

That ties into one of my historical theories. A culture's strength can be measured by it's trade, immigration, and tolerance of the other. Since early Christianity viewed usury as a sin, this restricted early economic activity and suppressed the merchant class. But Christian royalty wanted funds, so ever so often they would allow Jews in so they could get loans. They'd also periodically kick them out and seize their local assets. So one of the traditional roles of Jews in Europe was commerce. Commerce takes math and writing for records. Add a written text for religion, and you have a very strong basis for serious scholarship.

And now I think I have babbled enough for one evening.

ETA: Did I mention that I'm an avid amateur historian? And pagans can be addicted bibliophiles (pant, pant, No, I don't have a problem. Leave that book right there, I was reading it! Yes, I know it was under that plate and stack of papers, but I was reading it!!!)
